I'm SUPER bored. So let's have a kayaking theory lesson! haha.
What is a kayak?!
By definition, a kayak is a decked boat, which is paddled from a seated position using a two-bladed paddle. Contrast this with a canoe, which is NOT a decked boat paddled from a kneeling position with a single blade paddle.
Parts of a kayak!
Bow - Front of the kayak, identified by the seat and design of the cockpit.
Stern - Back of the kayak, identified by the seat and design of the cockpit.
Portside - On your left when seated properly.
Starboard - On your right when seated properly.
Deck - Top part of the kayak, usually slopes slightly in a moderate inveted V or rounded to shed water.
Deck lines - Ropes that run along the edge of the deck. Used for assisting rescue, towing and mooring.
Cockpit - Opening on the deck.
Cockpit coaming - Narrow lip around the edge of the cockpit, holds the spray cover in place and prevents water from entering the kayak.
Toggle - At both ends of the kayak, for towing purposes.
Cleat - On the deck, to hold deck lines in position.
Seat - Inside the cockpit for sitting.
Foot rest - A piece of aluminium tubing or plastic to support the feet.
Hull - Bottom half of the kayak.
Buoyancy - Polystyrene foam packed securely and evenly into both ends. Ensure kayak stays afloat even when filled up with water.
Gunwale - Edge or side of the kayak.
Okay. I'm really damn bored. Mell was super amusing. I realised where i learnt my randomness from. Charlene's out there kayaking now. I'm freaking jealous. It's ok. We're even. She was freaking jealous when i went for camp too. Oh well. I really wanna kayak badly. And i'm super bored. Still have History and SS homework.. and maths. Damnit how am i gonna survive. I so badly want to get into TP. It's not hard but i hate studying.
